New Visitor Attraction Now Open

Our new exhibition The Falls Where the Troubles Began, curated by the Falls Community Council, is now open.

t is located in St Comgall’s – Ionad Eileen Howell on Divis St, just a short 20-minute stroll from City Hall or a quick ride on the Glider. This compelling exhibition opens a unique window into one of the most pivotal chapters of Irish political history.

It tells the story of the outbreak of conflict on the streets that surrounded this old school from August 1969 to July 1970. Homes and businesses in the Falls were set ablaze by loyalists and the RUC police opened fire in the direction of the school and the Divis Flats complex in August 1969.

The area faced further devastation in July 1970 when thousands of British soldiers, backed by armoured vehicles and helicopters, stormed the Falls, ransacking homes and placing residents under strict military curfew. Life on the Falls would never be the same again.
